On Monday, January 31, we picked up where we left off in 2021 with more hip tips. This time we discussed specifically when those hips need to be replaced. Summit Health’s, Dr. Jordan Werner presented on the evolution of hip replacement surgery. Dr. Werner is an expert in joint replacement of the knee and hip, and has advanced training in muscle sparing anterior hip replacements. EXCEL’s Westfield Clinic Director, Mike Gaeta, PT, DPT, CSCS, provided an exercise program for patients currently managing their hip arthritis pain at home.

Dr. Jordan Werner is a member of Summit Health’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team. Dr. Werner treats adults who are experiencing pain and decreased function due to joint issues. As an orthopedic surgeon he performs hip and full and partial knee replacement surgery to treat arthritis and other pain issues, using technologies including navigation and robotics. Dr. Werner is highly skilled in anterior hip replacement surgery, a newer and more technically demanding approach that can be more muscle-sparing and offer faster recovery for eligible patients. He is also well-versed in posterior hip replacement surgery, a more common approach

Michael Gaeta, PT, DPT, CSCS, TPI completed his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Scranton, where he went on to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. In addition to being a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Mike is also certified as a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level 1 Medical—specialized training that enables him to design and implement off-season and in-season strength training programs, analyze players’ golf swings, and diagnose common injuries associated with golf. Mike enjoys treating orthopedic and sports injuries in all patient populations. His individualized treatment plans involve both manual therapy and therapeutic exercise to help patients return to their prior level of function.
