On October 8, 2020, we were joined by Rothman Orthopaedic Institute’s hip and knee specialist, Dr. Ari Seidenstein and EXCEL Hackensack Advanced Hip Clinician, Chris Mueller, PT, DPT to give you some hip tips about hip pain! We discussed many diagnoses of hip pain; including labral tears, impingement, bursitis and arthritis. Dr. Seidenstein reviewed some of the different causes of adult hip pain and medical treatments that he recommends. Chris provided a home exercise program and other tips for things to do at home to help manage any pain due to hip conditions.

Dr. Ari Seidenstein is well known throughout Northern New Jersey and New York as a hip and knee replacement specialist with expertise in both primary and revision surgery.  He has over 10 years of experience treating the most difficult problems in these joints and remains committed to improving his patients’ outcomes.  He has particular interest in hip and knee replacement as well as hip arthroscopy and hip impingement. Dr. Seidenstein is an elected member of the prestigious American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, a national society with admission based on recommendations of existing members, contributions to the field of hip and knee surgery and a lasting commitment to teaching and research. 

Chris Mueller, PT, DPT is board-certified by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as both an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS). Additionally, he holds certifications as an Advanced Hip Clinician, the Titleist Performance Institute as a Level 2 Medical Professional (TPI-MP2), and Functional Movement System’s Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). He believes that determining and treating the source, rather than the site, of pain or injury is the key to both successful rehabilitation and mitigation of the risk for future injury.

In 2017, a study predicted that by 2027 over half of all joint replacement surgeries would occur in the outpatient setting. It seems likely that given the current times, even more people would find comfort in the possibility to recover in their own home immediately after undergoing surgery.
