On Thursday, May 7, 2020, we were joined by board certified orthopedic surgeon and shoulder specialist Dr. Eric Black, MD, FAOOS from Summit Medical Group to talk about shoulder pain. Dr. Black explained the common causes of shoulder pain for different types of individuals. Then, EXCEL Westfield physical therapist and baseball expert Mike Gaeta walked us through an easy home exercise program for shoulder care.

Dr. Eric Black, MD, FAAOS is an orthopedic surgeon focusing on a variety of overuse, sports and traumatic injuries. His expertise includes advanced arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive surgery, replacement surgery and fracture surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Dr. Black has advanced knowledge and skills in complex rotator cuff repairs, instability surgery and shoulder replacements. He has worked with a large, diverse patient population, including professional athletes as well as patients with major and minor trauma, and end-stage arthritis. 

Mike Gaeta, PT, DPT, CSCS enjoys treating orthopedic and sports injuries. He creates individualized treatment plans that involve both manual therapy and therapeutic exercise to help patients return to their prior level of function. A former collegiate baseball player and coach, Mike is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, in addition to being certified as a Titleist Performance Institute Level 1 Medical—specialized training that enables him to design and implement strength training programs, analyze players’ golf swings, and diagnose common injuries associated with golf. Mike enjoys getting athletes back to play and helping all individuals achieve their maximum functional potential.
