Essie Kim, PT, DPT
NJ License # 40QA01757800
Essie graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey receiving awards for her clinical performance, professional leadership, research, community service, and academic performance.
While in school, she fell in love with the human brain and neurologic physical therapy, which led to clinical rotations in the Neuro ICU, stroke units, and neurosurgical floors. However, as she finished school, she returned to her first passion in physical therapy: orthopedics, which developed after having three separate ACL reconstruction surgeries throughout high school and college.
Wanting to hone in her orthopedic skills and clinical reasoning, she went on to complete Drexel University’s Orthopedic residency program where she treated varsity and club athletes in Philadelphia, patients with chronic pain through their pro-bono clinic, and participated in research in their Running Performance and Gait Lab. Essie has developed an interest in treating runners and performing running analyses to help prevent future and/or secondary injuries. She also has an interest in treating patients with sport-related concussive symptoms.
Essie believes in an evidence-based, individualized treatment approach for each patient. She draws from her neuro background to combine motor learning principles with strength and conditioning strategies to optimize patient recovery. As an adjunct instructor for Rutgers’ physical therapy program, she is able to remain up to date on evidence and clinical skills, allowing her to teach realistic, best practices to future physical therapists.
As much as Essie loves physical therapy, she believes in a balanced lifestyle and enjoys traveling - especially backpacking in different countries to learn more about their culture. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, and reading with a nice glass of wine.
